· This organization is one of many that are a part of Microsoft`s YouthSpark program, a company-wide, global initiative to create opportunities for 300 million youth by 2015, including in Houston. To date, through 30+ programs and partnerships with more than 350 youth-serving nonprofits, at the close of its second year, Microsoft YouthSpark has created new opportunities for more than 227 million young people in over 100 countries around the world.

In her junior year of high school, Lucia Quiroga wanted to find a program where she could work and continue to attend school. After being introduced to WeCan WORKS, she received an opportunity to intern at a local hospital. The Houston-based Quiroga is moving up in the ranks thanks to her knowledge of Microsoft technologies. She is grateful for the opportunities that the YouthSpark program provided, including being the first person in her family to attend college. Her involvement has opened doors and created new opportunities, including her current role as volunteer coordinator at Texas Children`s Hospital Volunteer Services.
